AbiramiBattar, was an outstanding and exemplary devotee of Amman. It was the incident involving him on a moonless night (Amavasai), that made worship of Amman on Pournami days very special and endearing. In our ShreeMuthumariamman Temple during Pournami, significant prayers are held Shree the MahaMeru, the geometrical symbolisation of our Goddess Shree Muthumariamman.
The specific prayers distinctly held in a unique procedure on Pournami days are as follows:
It is religiously imperative Pournami prayers are conducted in a strictly devotional and extremely austere fashion.
YegaThinaLatcharchana is performed on the day of Thaipoosam every year. Latcharchana is performed for three days during ChitraPoornima (Full Moon Day in the month of Chitrai) in which the devotees take part very actively and get the blessings of Goddess Muthumarriam
Muthmariamman will Bless her devotees on the eve of Tamil New Year . The Goddess will be decorated with flowers and golden ornaments.
On the eve of VaigasiVisagam at the sannidhi of Lord SrinivasaPerumal, Garuda Seva will be performed in a beautiful manner. Lord Perumal will be taken for procession through streets AadiFestival
Aadi Festival (AadiPeruvizha) will be celebrated continuously for 12 days during the month of Aadi (August) in the English Calender and begins with flag hosting on the first day. Goddess will be taken iout in procession. On the 10th day of the celestial wedding of Muthumariamman is performed, followed by the car festival the next day in a grand manner in which Classical Music, Bharathnatyam, Devotional speeches are organized. Theertha festival is celebrated on the 12th day.
On the day of each Poornima and during the Navarathiri days KuthuvizhakkuPooja will be performed by sumangalies (married women). In all the nine days the Goddess will be giving Dharshan to her devotees with different costumes.
This festival starts from New Moon of the Month Purattasiie., from MahalayaAmmavasai and spread over for 9 days. The deity will be seated in NavarathiriMandapam for Golu.
During the month of Karthigai (Tamil Month) the Kanda Sashti festival will be celebrated in a grand manner for six days, wherein special poojas and bajans will be taking place. On the seventh day Soorasamharam (destruction of Soora, a historic event) will be performed. On the Eighth day of the Kanda Sashti festival ThirukalyanaUtsavam (ceremonial wedding function of Lord Muruga) will be performed.
As poojas are performed in other temples during the month of Margazhi (Tamil Month) even in this temple special poojas are being done in the early mornings of Margazhi.
